RESUMO

Dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) is a crucial regulator of mitochondrial dynamics, the overactivation of which can lead to cardiovascular disease. Multiple distinct posttranscriptional modifications of Drp1 have been reported, among which S-nitrosylation was recently introduced. However, the detailed regulatory mechanism of S-nitrosylation of Drp1 (SNO-Drp1) in cardiac microvascular dysfunction in diabetes remains elusive. The present study revealed that mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase kinase 4 (MAP4K4) was consistently upregulated in diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) and promoted SNO-Drp1 in cardiac microvascular endothelial cells (CMECs), which in turn led to mitochondrial dysfunction and cardiac microvascular disorder. Further studies confirmed that MAP4K4 promoted SNO-Drp1 at human C644 (mouse C650) by inhibiting glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) expression, through which MAP4K4 stimulated endothelial ferroptosis in diabetes. In contrast, inhibition of MAP4K4 via DMX-5804 significantly reduced endothelial ferroptosis, alleviated cardiac microvascular dysfunction and improved cardiac dysfunction in db/db mice by reducing SNO-Drp1. In parallel, the C650A mutation in mice abolished SNO-Drp1 and the role of Drp1 in promoting cardiac microvascular disorder and cardiac dysfunction. In conclusion, our findings demonstrate that MAP4K4 plays an important role in endothelial dysfunction in DCM and reveal that SNO-Drp1 and ferroptosis activation may act as downstream targets, representing potential therapeutic targets for DCM.

RESUMO

Linkage maps are essential for genetic mapping of phenotypic traits, gene map-based cloning, and marker-assisted selection in breeding applications. Construction of a high-quality saturated map requires high-quality genotypic data on a large number of molecular markers. Errors in genotyping cannot be completely avoided, no matter what platform is used. When genotyping error reaches a threshold level, it will seriously affect the accuracy of the constructed map and the reliability of consequent genetic studies. In this study, repeated genotyping of two recombinant inbred line (RIL) populations derived from crosses Yangxiaomai × Zhongyou 9507 and Jingshuang 16 × Bainong 64 was used to investigate the effect of genotyping errors on linkage map construction. Inconsistent data points between the two replications were regarded as genotyping errors, which were classified into three types. Genotyping errors were treated as missing values, and therefore the non-erroneous data set was generated. Firstly, linkage maps were constructed using the two replicates as well as the non-erroneous data set. Secondly, error correction methods implemented in software packages QTL IciMapping (EC) and Genotype-Corrector (GC) were applied to the two replicates. Linkage maps were therefore constructed based on the corrected genotypes and then compared with those from the non-erroneous data set. Simulation study was performed by considering different levels of genotyping errors to investigate the impact of errors and the accuracy of error correction methods. Results indicated that map length and marker order differed among the two replicates and the non-erroneous data sets in both RIL populations. For both actual and simulated populations, map length was expanded as the increase in error rate, and the correlation coefficient between linkage and physical maps became lower. Map quality can be improved by repeated genotyping and error correction algorithm. When it is impossible to genotype the whole mapping population repeatedly, 30% would be recommended in repeated genotyping. The EC method had a much lower false positive rate than did the GC method under different error rates. This study systematically expounded the impact of genotyping errors on linkage analysis, providing potential guidelines for improving the accuracy of linkage maps in the presence of genotyping errors.

RESUMO

Fluoride pollution in water has garnered significant attention worldwide. The issue of fluoride removal remains challenging in areas not covered by municipal water systems. The industrial aluminum electrode and natural bauxite coordinated defluorination system (IE-BA) have been employed for fluoride removal. The experiment investigated the effects of pH, current density, and inter-electrode mineral layer thickness on the defluorination process of IE-BA. Additionally, the study examined the treatment efficiency of IE-BA for simulated water with varying F- concentrations and assessed its long-term performance. The results demonstrate that the defluorination efficiency can reach 98.4% after optimization. Moreover, irrespective of different fluoride concentrations, the defluorination rate exceeds 95.2%. After 72 hours of continuous operation, the defluorination rate reached 91.9%. The effluent exhibited weak alkalinity with a pH of around 8.0, and the voltage increased by 2.0 V compared to the initial moment. By analyzing the characterization properties of minerals and flocs, this study puts forward the possible defluorination mechanism of the IE-BA system. The efficacy of the IE-BA system in fluoride removal from water was ultimately confirmed, demonstrating its advantages in terms of defluorination ability under different initial conditions and resistance to complex interference. This study demonstrates that the IE-BA technology is a promising approach for defluorination.

RESUMO

Juices and beverages are produced by industry for long-distance distribution and shelf-stability, providing valuable nutrients. However, their nutritional value is often underestimated due to insufficient analytical methods. We have employed non-targeted analysis through a standardized analytical protocol, taking advantage of Data Independent Acquisition (DIA) technique and a novel Chromatographic Retention Behavior (CRB) data deconvolution algorithm. After analyzing 9 fruits and their products, correlations between fruits and their juices are accurately digitalized by similarities of their LC-MS fingerprints. We also specify non-targeted molecules primarily associate with nutrient loss in these analyzed juice products, including nitrogenous nutrients, flavonoids, glycosides, and vitamins. Moreover, we unveiled previously unreported fruit-characteristic metabolites, of which reconstituted-from-concentrate (RFC) juices contain over 40% of the content found in their fresh counterparts. Conclusively, our method establishes a quantitative benchmark for rational selection of RFC juices to substitute natural fruits.

RESUMO

Endophytic fungi are an important source of novel antitumor substances. Previously, we isolated an endophytic fungus, Alternaria alstroemeria, from the medicinal plant Artemisia artemisia, whose crude extracts strongly inhibited A549 tumor cells. We obtained a transformant, namely AaLaeAOE26 , which completely loses its antitumor activity due to overexpression of the global regulator AaLaeA. Re-sequencing analysis of the genome revealed that the insertion site was in the noncoding region and did not destroy any other genes. Metabolomics analysis revealed that the level of secondary antitumor metabolic substances was significantly lower in AaLaeAOE26 compared with the wild strain, in particular flavonoids were more downregulated according to the metabolomics analysis. A further comparative transcriptome analysis revealed that a gene encoding FAD-binding domain protein (Fla1) was significantly downregulated. On the other hand, overexpression of AaFla1 led to significant enhancement of antitumor activity against A549 with a sevenfold higher inhibition ratio than the wild strain. At the same time, we also found a significant increase in the accumulation of antitumor metabolites including quercetin, gitogenin, rhodioloside, liensinine, ginsenoside Rg2 and cinobufagin. Our data suggest that the global regulator AaLaeA negatively affects the production of antitumor compounds via controlling the transcription of AaFla1 in endophytic A. alstroemeria.

RESUMO

The epigenome, which reflects the modifications on chromatin or DNA sequences, provides crucial insight into gene expression regulation and cellular activity. With the continuous accumulation of epigenomic datasets such as chromatin immunoprecipitation followed by sequencing (ChIP-seq) data, there is a great demand for a streamlined pipeline to consistently process them, especially for large-dataset comparisons involving hundreds of samples. Here, we present Churros, an end-to-end epigenomic analysis pipeline that is environmentally independent and optimized for handling large-scale data. We successfully demonstrated the effectiveness of Churros by analyzing large-scale ChIP-seq datasets with the hg38 or Telomere-to-Telomere (T2T) human reference genome. We found that applying T2T to the typical analysis workflow has important impacts on read mapping, quality checks, and peak calling. We also introduced a useful feature to study context-specific epigenomic landscapes. Churros will contribute a comprehensive and unified resource for analyzing large-scale epigenomic data.

RESUMO

Salmonella can cause severe foodborne diseases. This study investigated the prevalence of Salmonella spp. in fresh foods in Hangzhou market and their harborage of antibiotic resistance and virulence genes, antibiotic susceptibility, and pathogenicity. A total of 500 samples (pork, n = 140; chicken, n = 128; vegetable, n = 232) were collected over a one-year period. Salmonella was found in 4.2% (21) of samples with the detection rate in pork, chicken and vegetables as 4.3% (6), 6.3% (8), and 3% (7), respectively. One Salmonella strain was recovered from each positive sample. The isolates were identified as six serotypes, of which S. Enteritidis (n = 7) and S. Typhimurium (n = 6) were the most predominant serotypes. The majority of isolates showed resistance to tetracycline (85.7%) and/or ciprofloxacin (71.4%). Tetracycline resistance genes showed the highest prevalence (90.5%). The occurrence of resistance genes for ß-lactams (blaTEM-1, 66.7%; and blaSHV, 9.5%) and aminoglycosides (aadA1, 47.6%; Aac(3)-Ia, 19%) was higher than sulfonamides (sul1, 42.9%) and quinolones (parC, 38.1%). The virulence gene fimA was detected in 57.1% of isolates. Gene co-occurrence analysis implied that resistance genes were associated with virulence genes. Furthermore, selected S. Typhimurium isolates (n = 4) carrying different resistance and virulence genes up-regulated the secretions of cytokines IL-6 and IL-8 by Caco-2 cells in different degrees, suggesting that virulence genes may play a role in inflammatory transcription. In in vivo virulence test, microbiological counts in mouse feces and tissues showed that all included S. Typhimurium were able to infect mice, with one strain showing significantly higher virulence than others. In conclusion, this study indicates Salmonella contamination in fresh foods in Hangzhou market poses a risk to public health and it should be closely monitored to prevent and control foodborne diseases.

RESUMO

KEY MESSAGE: Four stable QTL for adult-plant resistance (APR) to powdery mildew were identified on chromosome arms 1DL, 2BS, 2DL, and 6BL in the widely grown Chinese wheat cultivar Bainong 64. These QTL had no effect on response to stripe rust or leaf rust. Wheat powdery mildew, caused by Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici (Bgt), is a devastating fungal disease. Seedlings of Chinese wheat Bainong 64 are susceptible to Bgt, but adult plants have maintained resistance since it was released in 1996. A population of 171 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) developed from cross Jingshuang 16/Bainong 64 (JS16/BN64) was used to dissect genetic components of powdery mildew resistance. A genetic map comprising 5383 polymorphic markers was constructed using the 15 K SNP chip and kompetitive allele-specific PCR (KASP) markers. Composite interval mapping identified four stable QTL with favorable alleles all from BN64 on chromosome arms 1DL, 2BS, 2DL, and 6BL in at least four environments. They accounted for 8.3%, 13.8%, 14.4%, and 9.0% of the total phenotypic variation explained (PVE) in maximum, respectively. QPmjbr.caas-1DL, situated about 22 Mb from centromere, is probably a new QTL. QPmjbr.caas-2DL located near the end of arm 2DL and explained the largest PVE. Using genetic maps populated with KASP markers, QPmjbr.caas-2BS and QPmjbr.caas-6BL were fine mapped to a 1.8 cM genetic intervals spanning 13.6 Mb (76.0-89.6 Mb) and 1.7 cM and 4.9 Mb (659.9-664.8 Mb), respectively. The four QTL independent of stripe rust and leaf rust resistance were validated for powdery mildew resistance in another RIL population related to BN64 and a cultivar panel using representative KASP markers. Since BN64 has been a leading cultivar and an important breeding parent in China, the QTL and markers reported in this study will be useful for marker-assisted selection of APR.

RESUMO

The pulp production process generates a CaCO3-rich solid waste known as white mud (WM), and its improper disposal is a cause for global concern. The present study investigates the composition, microstructure, and thermal decomposition characteristics of WM and proposes a strategy for replacing limestone with WM for iron ore sintering. Granulation and sinter pot tests were performed to evaluate the influence of added WM on the granulation and sintering processes. We assess the feasibility of using WM as a flux and discuss the mechanism through which WM affects the mineral phase and strength of the sinter based on metallographic and micropore observations. The results indicate that the sintering rate remains stable after replacing 50% of the limestone with WM via moisture control, and the quality and production indicators of the sinter do not change. Moreover, the mineral phase and microporosity remain similar to the basic case without WM, and the comprehensive index decreased by only 5.5%. Overall, this study demonstrates that it is feasible to replace 50% of limestone with WM in industrial sintering plants, which could significantly increase our WM disposal capacity and bring additional economic benefits.

RESUMO

The sluggish kinetics of anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is regarded as the main bottleneck for ineffective hydrogen production efficiency, limiting the industrial application of electrochemical water splitting. Substituting the OER by urea electrooxidation reaction (UOR) and simultaneously developing highly active and economical bifunctional electrocatalyst for UOR and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is a promising method to realize energy-saving hydrogen production and urea-rich wastewater abatement. Herein, self-supporting Ni-NiO film grown on Ti mesh (Ni-NiO/TM) was successfully prepared by a facile cathodic electrodeposition method with using nickel acetate as the only raw material. Electrodeposition process was optimized by modulating the electrodeposition time and potential. x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman characterization revealed the optimized Ni-NiO/TM was comprised of crystalline Ni and amorphous NiO and its morphology exhibited nanosphere structure, assembled by nanosheets. Ni-NiO/TM sample prepared under the potential of -1.5 V and deposition time of 10 min illustrated the lowest UOR potential of 1.34 V at 50 mA cm-2and robust stability, superior to the recently reported literatures. Furthermore, the HER potential was only -0.235 V to drive the current density of 50 mA cm-2. The cell voltage of urea-assisted electrolysis for hydrogen production in Ni-NiO/TM||Ni-NiO/TM two-electrode system only required 1.56 V to deliver 50 mA cm-2, obviously lower than that (>1.72 V) for overall water splitting. This work demonstrated the potential of Ni-based material as bifunctional electrocatalyst for energy-saving H2production by urea-rich wastewater electrolysis.

RESUMO

Cohesin regulates gene expression through context-specific chromatin folding mechanisms such as enhancer-promoter looping and topologically associating domain (TAD) formation by cooperating with factors such as cohesin loaders and the insulation factor CTCF. We developed a computational workflow to explore how three-dimensional (3D) structure and gene expression are regulated collectively or individually by cohesin and related factors. The main component is CustardPy, by which multi-omics datasets are compared systematically. To validate our methodology, we generated 3D genome, transcriptome, and epigenome data before and after depletion of cohesin and related factors and compared the effects of depletion. We observed diverse effects on the 3D genome and transcriptome, and gene expression changes were correlated with the splitting of TADs caused by cohesin loss. We also observed variations in long-range interactions across TADs, which correlated with their epigenomic states. These computational tools and datasets will be valuable for 3D genome and epigenome studies.

RESUMO

Environmental hazards are an increasing concern due to the rapid pace of industrialization. Among these hazards, noise and carbon monoxide (CO) are common risk factors and have been shown to cause serious health problems. However, existing studies focused on the individual effects of noise and CO exposure and the combined effects of these two factors remain poorly understood. Our study aimed to examine the combined effects of noise and CO exposure on testicular function by constructing individual and combined exposure models. Our findings indicated that combined exposure to noise and CO was associated with a higher risk of testicular damage and male reproductive damage when compared to exposure alone. This was evidenced by poorer semen quality and more severe pathological damage to the testis. This combined exposure led to higher levels of oxidative stress and apoptosis in the testes, with bioinformatics analyses suggesting the signaling pathways involved in these responses. Specifically, activation of the P53 signaling pathway was found to contribute to the testicular damage caused by the combined exposure. Encouragingly, pterostilbene (PTE), a novel phytochemical, alleviated combined exposure-induced testicular damage by reducing oxidative stress and germ cell apoptosis. Overall, we identified joint reproductive toxicity resulting from the exposure to noise and CO, and found that PTE is a promising potential treatment for injuries caused by these factors. The cover image is based on the Research Article Effects and possible mechanisms of combined exposure to noise and carbon monoxide on male reproductive system in rats by Yingqing Li et al., https://doi.org/10.1002/tox.23927.

RESUMO

The essential oil, extracted from the Hmong medicine Blumea balsamifera (L.) DC. (BBO), is a purely natural wound repair agent. Its application has, however, been restricted due to its low solubility and high volatility properties. In this study, we have developed a nanoemulsion formulation to improve the characteristics of BBO. The particle size of the nanoemulsion was normally distributed, and 71% of its range was concentrated between 10-100 nm, with an average particle size of 62.8 nm and an encapsulation rate of 98%. After 7 days of application, the wound healing rate of the BBO nanoemulsion (BBO-NE) group was 1.5 times higher than that of the normal BBO group. Along with histological observations, nanoemulsion formulation has been demonstrated to significantly improve the efficacy of BBO for wound repair. In addition, inflammation-related TLR4, CD14 and IRAK-1 gene transcript levels were significantly reduced after the administration of BBO-NE compared to the BBO group, with downregulation of 47.8%, 35.7% and 57.8%, respectively, while the secretion of pro-inflammatory factors IL-6 and TNF-α was also significantly reduced by 83.8% and 32.7%, respectively, in the nanoformulation administration (BBO-NE) group compared to the BBO group. In contrast, the anti-inflammatory factor IL-10 was significantly increased by 4.2-fold. It was further found that the drug penetration per unit area increased significantly 6.30% to 19.5% at different time points after the application of the BBO-NE compared to the BBO. In conclusion, nano-formulation enhanced the drug penetration of the BBO, reduced inflammatory factors, increased the level of anti-inflammatory factors, and promoted collagen deposition, thereby accelerating wound repair.

RESUMO

This study aims to explore the male reproductive toxicity of Benzo[b]fluoranthene (BbF) and related mechanisms. The results of computational toxicology analysis indicated male reproductive toxicity of BbF was related to apoptosis of Leydig cells and that Akt/p53 pathway might play a key role. In experiments, BbF induced testosterone decline, decreased concentration and motility of sperm and aggravated testicular pathological injury in mice. Besides, BbF led to apoptosis in Leydig cells, and decreased expressions of p-Akt and Bcl2, while improving the expressions of p53, Bax and Cleaved Caspase-3 in vivo and in vitro. Further, compared with BbF group, Akt activator SC79 significantly reduced cell apoptosis rate, improved cell viability, promoted the expressions of p-Akt and p-Mdm2, and reversed the above molecular expressions. Similarly, p53 inhibitor Pifithrin-α also significantly enhanced the cell vitality, alleviated the apoptosis of TM3 cells induced by BbF, and decreased the expressions of Bax and Cleaved Caspase-3, with the up-regulation of Bcl2. To sum up, by inhibiting Akt-Mdm2 signaling, BbF activated the p53-mediated mitochondrial apoptosis pathway, further inducing the apoptosis of Leydig cells, therefore resulting in testosterone decline and male reproductive damage. Besides, this study provided a valid mode integrating computational toxicology and experimental approaches in toxicity testing.

RESUMO

Semiconductor photocatalysis is deemed as a novel and promising process that can produce H2O2 from earth-abundant water and gaseous dioxygen using sunlight as the energy supply. The searching of novel catalysts for photocatalytic H2O2 production has received increasing attention in the last few years. Herein, size-controlled growth of ZnSe nanocrystals was realized via a solvothermal method by varying the amount of Se and KBH4. The performance of the as-obtained ZnSe nanocrystals towards photocatalytic H2O2 production depends on the mean size of the synthesized nanocrystals. Under O2-bubbling, the optimal ZnSe sample presented an excellent H2O2 production efficiency (8.596 mmol g-1 h-1), and the apparent quantum efficiency for H2O2 production reaches as high as 2.84% at λ = 420 nm. Under air-bubbling, the accumulation of H2O2 was as high as 1.758 mmol L-1 after 3 h irradiation at the ZnSe dosage of 0.4 g L-1. The photocatalytic H2O2 production performance is far superior to the most investigated semiconductors such as TiO2, g-C3N4, and ZnS.

RESUMO

Chromatin organization, whose malfunction causes various diseases including cancer, is fundamentally controlled by cohesin. While cancer cells have been found with mutated or misexpressed cohesin genes, there is no comprehensive survey about the presence and role of abnormal cohesin binding in cancer cells. Here, we systematically identified ∼1% of cohesin-binding sites (701-2,633) as cancer-aberrant binding sites of cohesin (CASs). We integrated CASs with large-scale transcriptomics, epigenomics, 3D genomics, and clinical information. CASs represent tissue-specific epigenomic signatures enriched for cancer-dysregulated genes with functional and clinical significance. CASs exhibited alterations in chromatin compartments, loops within topologically associated domains, and cis-regulatory elements, indicating that CASs induce dysregulated genes through misguided chromatin structure. Cohesin depletion data suggested that cohesin binding at CASs actively regulates cancer-dysregulated genes. Overall, our comprehensive investigation suggests that aberrant cohesin binding is an essential epigenomic signature responsible for dysregulated chromatin structure and transcription in cancer cells.

RESUMO

Effectors are crucial for the interaction between endophytes and their host plants. However, limited attention has been paid to endophyte effectors, with only a few reports published. This work focuses on an effector of Fusarium lateritium, namely FlSp1 (Fusarium-lateritium-Secreted-Protein), a typical unknown secreted protein. The transcription of FlSp1 was up-regulated after 48 h following fungal inoculation in the host plant, i.e., tobacco. The inactivation of FlSp1 with the inhibition rate decreasing by 18% (p < 0.01) resulted in a remarkable increase in the tolerance of F. lateritium to oxidative stress. The transient expression of FlSp1 stimulated the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) without causing plant necrosis. In comparison with the wild type of F. lateritium (WT), the FlSp1 mutant of the F. lateritium plant (ΔFlSp1) reduced the ROS accumulation and weakened the plant immune response, which resulted in significantly higher colonization in the host plants. Meanwhile, the resistance of the ΔFlSp1 plant to the pathogenic Ralstonia solanacearum, which causes bacterial wilt, was increased. These results suggest that the novel secreted protein FlSp1 might act as an immune-triggering effector to limit fungal proliferation by stimulating the plant immune system through ROS accumulation and thus balance the interaction between the endophytic fungi and their host plants.

RESUMO

SGGY, an antioxidant tetrapeptide identified from walnut protein hydrolysate in our previous study, has been suggested to possess the potential to alleviate oxidative stress in cells. In this paper, the neuroprotective effects of SGGY on H2O2-stimulated oxidative stress in SH-SY5Y cells and the underlying mechanisms were investigated. Results showed that SGGY alleviated H2O2-induced oxidative stress by decreasing the intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) level and altering the mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), thereby inhibiting apoptosis and increasing cell viability. SGGY significantly restored antioxidant enzyme activities and reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) content accordingly. Moreover, SGGY promoted the nuclear translocation of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and suppressed the H2O2-induced activation of JNK and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs). Taken together, these results suggested that SGGY protected SH-SY5Y cells from H2O2-provoked oxidative stress by enhancing the ability of cellular antioxidant defense, and the possible mechanism involved MAPKs and Nrf2 signaling pathways.

RESUMO

From bi-parental pure-inbred lines (PIL), immortalized backcross (i.e., IB1 and IB2, representing the two directions of backcrossing) and F2 (i.e., IF2) populations can be developed. These populations are suitable for genetic studies on heterosis, due to the present of both homozygous and heterozygous genotypes, and in the meantime allow repeated phenotyping trials across multiple locations and years. In this study, we developed a combined approach of quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping, when some or all of the four immortalized populations (i.e., PIL, IB1, IB2, and IF2) are available. To estimate the additive and dominant effects simultaneously and accurately, suitable transformations are made on phenotypic values from different populations. When IB1 and IB2 are present, summation and subtraction are used. When IF2 and PIL are available, mid-parental values and mid-parental heterosis are used. One-dimensional genomic scanning is performed to detect the additive and dominant QTLs, based on the algorithm of inclusive composite interval mapping (ICIM). The proposed approach was applied to one IF2 population together with PIL in maize, and identified ten QTLs on ear length, showing varied degrees of dominance. Simulation studies indicated the proposed approach is similar to or better than individual population mapping by QTL detection power, false discovery rate (FDR), and estimated QTL position and effects.

RESUMO

In this study, we developed an airlift-electrocoagulation (AL-EC) reactor to remove norfloxacin (NOR) from water. Six parameters influencing NOR removal were investigated, and the possible removal mechanism was proposed based on flocs characterization and intermediates analysis. The performances for treating different antibiotics and removing NOR from 3 types of water were also evaluated. The best NOR removal efficiency was obtained with the iron anode and aluminum cathode combination, a current density of 2 mA cm-2, an initial pH of 7, a treatment time of 32 minutes and an air flow rate of 200 mL min-1, the supporting electrolyte type was NaCl, and the initial NOR concentration was 10 mg L-1. Flocs adsorption and electrochemical oxidation were the main ways to remove NOR from water. The average removal efficiency of the AL-EC reactor exceeded 60% of the different antibiotic concentrations in artificial and real water. The highest NOR removal rate reached 93.48% with an operating cost of 0.153 USD m-3. The present work offers a strategy for NOR removal from water with high efficiency and low cost, showing a huge potential for the application of the AL-EC in antibiotic contaminated water treatment.
